Solid Flowdan sample from Armin van Buuren’s set this past Saturday.
Scenes from my walking commute through Malmö.

Proclaimers @ Mejeriet. Not my usual jam, but these guys were great!

A look at my set from NGBG-festivalen last night.
Swedish House Mafia, Gothenburg. An estimated 40,000 people attended their free show at Götaplatsen.
Hven distillery, Ven island. Fun way to spend a Friday 😊

This suit of armor is intended to represent the dead Swedish king who was being honored with the procession in which this armor was featured. This was, literally, the inception of Scandinavian death metal. #seewhatididthere
Malmö, 10 pm
I cannot unsee the number of em-dashes that Claude wants to put in my documents.
Current vibe
From a rave last weekend. Amelie Lens headlining. Awesome lineup from start to finish.

Aurora borealis over Malmö.
MALMÖ SESSIONS 002 is up on Soundcloud! Enjoy!
CRAMO
I did not have “installing a Linux environment complete with dev- and container build tools on an iPad” on my bingo card, but here we are. Does it actually run podman? No, but basic scripting works. Fun and also nerdy way to spend a train ride 🤓
Caught Electric Callboy in Copehagen this weekend. Metal plus a little electronic flavor. Had an awesome time!

MALMÖ SESSIONS 001 is up on Soundcloud - enjoy!
DJed for a minute at Heery’s in Waterford, Ireland. Funny story, great venue!
Last night - went to Plan B in Malmö. Really reminds me of an all-ages club I used to go to as a teen. Good vibes. Two dance floors inadvertently set up a case study in laptop DJing vs CDJ DJing. Neither was better than the other, just cool to …
I moved to Malmö, Sweden at the beginning of August. The culmination of many, many conversations and a ton of planning that began with a rainy November weekend in Dublin, Ireland. Still very much learning the new landscape of my life.
Switched my devices over to Swedish this morning. Så långt är allt gott… Just need to like, learn Swedish now.
17 minutes of DJ science from St. Guetta: www.youtube.com/watch
Justice @ Boston last night. Absolutely epic show.
Spent the day getting our latest cohort of summer interns up and running. Recovering in a delightfully chaotic Thai place.
Took Baldur’s Gate III multiplayer mode for a spin with friends tonight. I think the story elements don’t flow quite as smoothly but the combat is pretty fun! Will definitely do multiplayer again. 🎮
Last morning in Malmö; sipping coffee on the balcony. 🗺️✈️
We have been visiting Malmö for a week. Our trip is coming to an end for now, but we are really looking forward to our return in the late summer… 🗺️✈️

Just watched Bladerunner (the “Final Cut” edit) with my son who really enjoys cinema. He loved it - which was not a guarantee! But it is my all-time favorite movie and watching him love it was just an incredible experience. ❤️
At the first middle school track meet of the season. With wind chill adding to already low temps, I think it is officially too damn cold for a track meet today. Wishing I brought a flask…
I felt AWESOME about my livestream last night but I hit a snag with the new gear RIGHT AT THE END 😭 So I re-recorded today, and lo, IT IS DONE! I love this set; it perfectly captures my five years DJing. I hope you dig it!
This is happening tonight, and it’s going to be a lot of fun :-) I’m doing the whole gig on the new gear, from a thumb drive, without a laptop. I’ll be sound-checking with some slow jams at 8:30 PM US EDT and then things get crazy …
Saw Väsen in concert last night. I wouldn’t have picked this show, but five minutes in I knew that I was listening to two absolute masters of their craft, and I am always in the mood for that. 🎵

Long day. Spent much of it trying to explain that you can be creative AND productive.
The Omnis Duo gets a lot of hate, but I have to say that sitting on my couch and coming up with a set on the fly was a LOT of fun. 512gb SD card with my whole music collection on it FTW
Another Friday, another manhattan on the rocks. The stock market is so (understandably) insane that I should probably stockpile some cocktail ingredients this weekend… 🥃
My usual Thursday night hang-out isn’t happening this week, so the plan is to 1) eat pizza and 2) work on my next DJ set. The new controller (and the new-to-me rekordbox ecosystem) has me rethinking the way I build and perform sets. I also love …
Spent the day remembering how to Dougie
Spent a long time in the flow today. Wrote a file parser. Deleted Duolingo with tremendous satisfaction after rising to “diamond league”. It’s the little things.
In the club for Sara Landry tonight. The opening dj is Syona and she is crushing it!
Went down the rabbit hole of fixing the way I organize my music tracks (including file naming) while preserving all of my playlists in the DJ software. Tools used: ruby scripting language, sqlite3 database, m3u8 playlists, and Lexicon (3rd party sync …
I’ve managed to set aside an overwhelming sense of dread by staying busy. There is plenty to be done here and now that is useful and meaningful, even if it won’t change the world.
I have learned much about Duolingo since I started using it. I feel like it encourages a kind of obsessive meta-gaming that actually works against more impactful learning. So my current goal is to get to Diamond league (I’m one good week away …
Mega appreciation post for micro.blog. The ability to manage multiple sites from one place, with per-site cross-posting to other social media platforms, and being able to automatically create newsletters based on the type of post. The capabilities …
Big changes over the weekend for my DJ stuff. For digital presence, I’ve moved from Google Sites to micro.blog, where I can handle both social media posts and a mailing list from one place. Also shifted from Mixcloud to Twitch + Soundcloud and …
Totally Normal Dance Mix #36 - GOOD VIBES ONLY - Now on Soundcloud!
After the technical issues during my livestream I re-recorded this. It’s not perfect but it’s MUCH better than the first try. Enjoy!
I just re-recorded my latest DJ livestream. I had a ton of technical issues during the live set and my heart wasn’t in it. The re-record is at least glitch free, and certainly better than any set I did in my first year of DJing. I was also in a …
Had friends over last night to celebrate the end of the work week. One of our guests was also our chef for the evening, commandeering our kitchen to make boiled dinner. I’ve never been enthusiastic about boiled dinner, but this time around it was a …
Yesterday and today, back at my own drafting table. I am familiarizing myself with a previous tinkerer’s unfinished prototype, with the goal of making a working model. What is missing are the scribbled notes and earlier drawings that would tell me …
Multi-modal journey into the head office this morning. Along the way, I listened to a discussion about how things went sideways in the early 2010’s with algorithm-driven social media feeds. I agreed fully with this notion, and regret what it …
Testing out a micro.blog plugin. I’ve had this banger stuck in my head for days, now.

Yesterday’s various news items fostered in me a sense of existential dread. To combat the sensations of helplessness, I accomplished much before breakfast this morning. Language studies and a plan for the day, all before that sacred first cup …
We finished filling the first 20-yard dumpster yesterday. 10 years of living in a place means not having to think about what is truly important to preserve. We have only a matter of months to prepare for our next adventure, forcing us to appraise all …
Yesterday we took apart the collapsing remains of the garden walls. A tangle of rotting boards and wire fencing. The neighboring townsfolk are not upset to see them go.
Concert last night; a famous chanteuse from the old city. Nostalgia for a time half-remembered. Afterwards, we sat around the kitchen, drinks in hand - thinking about the future.
This showed up on Hacker News today; pretty amazing read on the technical construction of social engineering attacks: www.bentasker.co.uk/posts/blo…
This morning I wondered about living in a reality distortion field that was so strong, I could not see any possibility beyond what my curated army of yes-men reflected back to me. And lashing out like a scared animal when the walls of that distortion …
There was a certain gloominess in the workshop today. The afternoon ice cream helped lighten the mood, and I left determined to make a brighter evening for my ensemble.
Putting on my top hat and monocle to head into the office today. It’s a space that is new-ish to my compatriot tinkerers and yet it is also quite old. A tiny, modern workshop built within the colossal ribcage of a fallen giant.
Evening situation: improving.
(rye manhattan on the rocks, like god intended)

I’ve been re-reading an email I sent yesterday. It’s one of those situations where I know I responded in the right way, but I still feel uneasy about it. In a relationship that has subsisted on me nodding along to their bullshit, I just drew the line …
Needed a place to clear my head that was relatively anonymous. Too much shit going on in the world.
