    In the club for Sara Landry tonight. The opening dj is Syona and she is crushing it!

    Went down the rabbit hole of fixing the way I organize my music tracks (including file naming) while preserving all of my playlists in the DJ software. Tools used: ruby scripting language, sqlite3 database, m3u8 playlists, and Lexicon (3rd party sync tool for DJ gear). I’m happy with the results!

    Big changes over the weekend for my DJ stuff. For digital presence, I’ve moved from Google Sites to micro.blog, where I can handle both social media posts and a mailing list from one place. Also shifted from Mixcloud to Twitch + Soundcloud and I’m hoping to get a lot more “foot traffic” as a result.

    Totally Normal Dance Mix #36 - GOOD VIBES ONLY - Now on Soundcloud! After the technical issues during my livestream I re-recorded this. It’s not perfect but it’s MUCH better than the first try. Enjoy! DJ Harrison Ripps · Totally Normal Dance Mix #36 - GOOD VIBES ONLY

    I just re-recorded my latest DJ livestream. I had a ton of technical issues during the live set and my heart wasn’t in it. The re-record is at least glitch free, and certainly better than any set I did in my first year of DJing. I was also in a better headspace, which always helps.

    Testing out a micro.blog plugin. I’ve had this banger stuck in my head for days, now. {{< apple-music url=“https://music.apple.com/us/album/system-shock/1795539082?i=1795539085" >}}

    Meta Problems

    I’ve always used Instagram to promote my DJ hobby stuff. I know it is owned by (and integrated with) Facebook, which I actively dislike, but I always viewed IG as “Evil Adjacent” rather than “Pure Evil”. But at some point along the way, FB has now “streamlined” some things between the two platforms. The result is that if you want to use a scheduling app (like Buffer or Later) to queue your IG posts ahead of time, you need an IG Business Account that must be connected to a Facebook Page. You can’t just have an IG Creator account anymore, you must also have an FB account.

    How we become our grandparents

    Last weekend I had the privilege of DJing at the wedding of some friends. I’ve unofficially DJed a few parties, but never something as involved (and DJ-dependant) as a life-changing ceremony followed by several hours of dancing. Annika will tell you that I spent a lot of the preceeding week in a heightened state of, well, being nervous as hell. Before I go much further, let me say that the DJing went well. The ceremony went smoothly, no worries with the random playlist through cocktail hour, and once we got into the post-dinner dancing portion of the evening, I really started to have a lot of fun. The bride and groom seemed happy, no one threatened me. Some of the other wedding guests, themselves veterans of many a sound check, helped me move audio equipment around as events dictated.
